Cobalt Park hosts Stargate UK initiatives that bring Nscale and partnerships with players such as OpenAI and NVIDIA to the North East. These projects target hyperscale AI workloads and signal a wave of further private investment in large-scale compute infrastructure.
Green Energy Advantage for AI Operations
The North East benefits from direct access to substantial low-carbon and renewable resources, including offshore wind and grid-scale renewables that can supply high-demand facilities. That energy profile supports lower operational emissions for data centres and enables flexible procurement models such as long-term power purchase agreements and storage-coupled supply. Clean energy integration is central to meeting the power intensity and sustainability expectations of modern AI operations.

Projected impacts include 4,000 to 5,000 new jobs across construction, engineering and digital roles, with additional opportunities for local suppliers and universities.
